Belts for Greasy or Oily Materials PDF Print E-mail
Deltafat and Dynafat
These belts are used for transporting materials containing oily and greasy products such as:
  • vegetable or animal fats found in the food industry, sugar plants, harbours or in the production of food for livestock.
  • mineral oils found in the steel, glass and recycling industries and any other industry which involves the use of oil lubricants.
  • chemical products such as fuel oil for example, which may damage the belt covers,
like in the fertilizer industry or in the transport of coal in power plants.

Structure of DELTAFAT and DYNAFAT belts
Both DELTAFAT and DYNAFAT belts can be used for the transport of oily and greasy materials:

DELTAFAT plied belts are composed of a carcass made of alternating textile and rubber layers
are then covered with outer rubber covers. The inner rubber layers function as a shock absorber. The upper
outer cover protects the carcass from damage caused by the material being transported while the
lower outer cover protects it from abrasion by the supporting rollers.

DYNAFAT "solid-woven" belts are are made of a single thick textile fabric layer impregnated with PVC and an
upper and lower outer rubber cover to protect the textile carcass.

DELTAFAT
a
nd DYNAFAT belts come in the following ranges:
-tensile strenght: 250 N/mm to 2500 N/mm (DELTAFAT)
-tensile strenght: 400 N/mm to 3150 N/mm (DYNAFAT)
-width for a standard belt: up to 1600 mm.

Special Cases:

Belts used for the Transport of Gready Food Products
These special white belts have to comply with specific norms and standards for the transport of food
products. For further information please refer to the section on belts for the food industry.

Flame resistant belts for oily and greasy materials
DELTAFLAM and DYNAFLAM safety belts.
The K3, S3 or Vt types can be used for the transport of oily and greasy materials:

K3 and S3:

  • resistant to both vegetable and animal fats.
  • flame resistant in compliance with the ISO 340, DIN 2210 / DIN 22103,
    K or S safety levels.
  • antistatic in compliance with ISO 282 and DIN 22104.
  • have SBR/nitrite rubber covers.
Vt:
  • resistant to both vegetable, animal and mineral oils
  • flame resistant in compliance with the DIN 22118 norm..
  • antistatic in compliance with ISO 284 and DIN 22104 norms.
  • have polychloroprene rubber covers which are resistant to temperatures of up to 110oC.
PVC belts for materials containing oily and greasy products
The "solid-woven" PVC belt, DYNA-P, can be be used for the transport of materials containing mineral oils. This belt is,
for example, particularly suited to the transport of material containing sharp oily metallic elements.

The effect of fatty materials on belts

The presence of varying concentrations of fatty products in the transported materials can have an effect on the
rubber covers:
  • it can cause the deterioration of the mechanical properties
    (abrasion, elasticity, life expectancy).
  • it can make the rubber swell which may cause to come separated
    from the textile fabric.
To counteract these effects, a special type of rubber is used for the cover and a special solution is used for
dipping the textile fabric.

Safety requirements for belts to be used above ground

from -20
o C to + 80o C with the exception of DELTAFLAM Vt belts for which the temperature range is from -20o C to + 110o C.

The different types of covers

The following table lists the abrasion and oil resistance of the different rubber covers

Type

Properties

Type of rubber

Abrasion mm max

Operating temperature Application (example)

01

Good resistance to vegetable and animal fats and an average resistance to mineral oils

nitrile / SBR 130 -25oC to +80oC Wood processing industry
02

High resistance to mineral oils as well as to classical hydrocarbides

nitrile 130 -15oC to +90oC Fertilizer plants

Mechanical properties
With respect to the mechanical properties (elongation, plyability, faster holding), adhesion properties and the methods
of jointing, DELTAFAT and DYNAFAT belts are very similar to DELTA belts.

Belts in stock and belts manufactured to order
with the exception of the belts in the following table, all DELTAFAT and DYNAFAT belts are manufactured to order
and have molded edges
